When you say you forgot your password....Did you forget your password to the iPad or your Apple ID? The reset process doesn’t normally take an extremely long time, and if you forgot your password to your iPad but remember you Apple ID password then once it’s done moving the bar across the bottom under the Apple Logo then it will reboot and when it does will ask you to sign back in. If you try to restore it from a backup, it may however, place the lock back on it and if you don’t remember the password you’ll be stuck again. Just setup as a new iPad and start over to keep it from locking again. If you forgot your Apple ID password then you’re going to have to use Apples Forgot Password process to reset your password and then you’ll be able to log back in to your iPad.
