Dual monitor hdmi to MacBook Pro

I'm trying to connect two identical monitors to macbook pro 2016 using two separate usb-c to hdmi cables but it will only allow me to have one monitor connected at any one time. Is this even possible or am I missing something?

What resolution? Your MBP can support up to two displays at 4K, only one display at 5K.
