Received an eMail, supposed to be from Claim ****@ smartphoneperformancesettlement.com, stating I should submit my claim for iPhone 6 and all other series 6 phones by October 6, 2020.
It looked like "fishing' mail to me. Therefore, I need to confirm. Tried calling Apple Support without success. Has any one received any such mail or have any idea what is this about?

It's legit, but mostly a waste of time. You'll have to dig up your serial number(s), and the settlement you'll get will be tiny. If someone said to you "Hey, I want you to find my serial number for that phone I used to have and fill out this stupid form for me. How much would you charge for doing all that?"
You'll be getting less than that amount.
The minimum Apple has to pay is $310M. after the law firm's cut that's $215M. If, say, 10M people claim they'll get about $21.50 each. But I have no idea how many people will claim.
Or save your receipts. I knew it was legit because I've been involved in other such settlements, mostly due to companies exposing my debit card to hackers. It seems to do a much better job with some phones bought directly from Apple than others purchased from Authorized Resellers. It really has a problem with service replacement units. I also keep up with the news and rumor sites which announced they were doing this.
NM deggie .. how do you know its legit? Anyhow ...fyi all it couldn't "find" my serial # with all of my info. Luckily I save my boxes and low and behold I have had all of those models ... so save ur boxes!

I see now that the amount might be $25. That's an approximation that depends on how many people claim. It could be more or less. If not many people make valid claims (and I'm guessing most won't) it could go up. They don't say how they estimated the $25 so it's hard to know.
Wish they would post it here so the average person knows its legit.

I believe the amount paid is capped at $25.
The notice I received says "Please note that the actual cash payment per eligible device may be greater than or less than $25, depending on the total number of approved claims and other factors."
Okay, but based on past history I wouldn’t say a low number would submit. My guess is $15. What say you?
And you were correct. And yes I knew what the lawyers and original plaintiffs get. Just thought you might have a guess.
I would say that it isn't capped at $25. I'm not bothering to try to dig up my serial numbers, so I don't expect it to be a lot. The lawyers, however, get 30% of $310,000,000 plus another two million in expenses.
