Counting step while using a walker

I have a Garmin Vivoactive 3 and a Withings Watch. Both do not count steps when I am using my walker. Yesterday my iPhone XR counted >14,000 steps, Withings, only 6,000!

Having a ½ marathons coming up again (Canada Army Run Commanders Challenge) It would be nice to have something that counts steps while using a walker.

Does Apple Watch count steps when the arm isn’t swinging back and forth? If it does, I guess I buy yet another tracker watch!

TIA!

Hello brightonpete,

We see that you have a question about using the Apple Watch with a walker and it counting your steps. We'd be happy to provide you with some information to help.

If you're wanting to make sure that you earn exercise credit, you would want to make sure that the arm that has the Apple Watch on it, swings freely. However, you can also use the Workout app to help to keep track. Take a look at the articles below that provide some additional information for you.
