Why can't I find my iPad & iPhone in finder?

Both my iPad and iPhones don't display in finder!! WHY???! WHY???! WHY???!

This is such BAD DESIGN!!!

At least with iTunes, I could view/update my iOS devices. Under Catalina, NOTHING works. I don't care that iTunes was deprecated. I want my devices to work! This means finder must ALWAYS function better than iTunes.

I've tried to check/uncheck the (finder) preference for "CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices." No change. Even left it unchecked for over 24 hours and re-enabled it. Tried different cables. Rebooted my iOS devices.

Apple used to be "it just works..." No more is this true. (Hasn't been true for a while now.)

Using Catalina 10.15.6 on MacBookPro 16-inch, 2019 model.

iPhone 7+ and iPad Pro 2020 model with latest iOS.

New USB-c cables.

MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

After updating all my software and rebooting my MacBookPro, it became visible in the sidebar of Finder.
