Ipad 3 update query

I currently have an iPad 3rd Generation 16GB tablet which is nearly full, runs so slowly, won't accept some apps or app updates because of its age. I like the 9.7" screen and wouldn't want to progress to a mini as I am not young and would find the text/ images too small. I am therefore looking at getting the youngest device with a 9.7" screen which I believe is an iPad pro 1st generation with a 128 or 256GB capacity.

Will this accept current updates to apps or is it still too old? Is it easy enough to transfer all my files from one to the other? Can you transfer apps or do you have to load them all again to the newer tablet?

The iPad Pro 9.7” is compatible with iPadOS 13 - and the soon to be released iPadOS 14. However, this model of iPad is comparatively old - and may be difficult to find.

From the perspective of cost, ability and potential product lifespan, the current iPad7 might be a better choice. The iPad7 has almost the same physical dimensions as your existing iPad3 (and the iPad Pro 9.7”), but benefits from narrow screen bezels and a larger 10.2” screen.

Transferring your existing files to a new iPad should be straightforward. More details here:

Hello, from what I understand from your question you will not be able to transfer apps and data from your 3rd generation iPad due to how old that model is. But Its not very hard to reinstall the applications to your new iPad Pro. And you may also be able to export the photos on the old iPad and upload them to your iCloud account/Apple ID so they will be transferred over to your new iPad.
