iPad reset

My iPad is locked. I set this up years ago when I was employed with my work email. I don’t remember my password and if I request to change my password, it will email my old work email. Since this iPad is listed in my devices, why can’t Apple send the password change to my iCloud email. This renders my device useless.

You can reset your iPad and deactivate Activation Lock by using your Apple ID. That should be different than the work email you were describing, and it sounds like you have your Apple ID as you know that the iPad is listed in "Find My"'s Device list.

Have you tried following the below steps (excerpted from the foregoing link):

If you forget your Apple ID or password

Your Apple ID is the account that you use to sign in to all Apple services. Usually, your Apple ID is your email address. If you forget your Apple ID, we can help you find it.

If you forget your password, you can reset it from your device or your Apple ID account page.\

If you can't find your Apple ID or reset your password, you'll lose access to your account and might be unable to use or reactivate your device. To help prevent this, visit your Apple ID account page periodically to review and update your account information.

Good luck!
