MacBook Air 2019 and Dell D6000 Connection Issues

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me as I've run out of ideas.

I currently have a MacBook Air 2019 connected to a Dell D6000 Docking Station, this in itself is connected to two Dell P2319H monitors via DP cables. My MacBook itself has a Magic Keyboard and Mouse connected to it and is running the latest version of Catalina.

The issues I'm having is when I connect the MacBook to the docking station and close the lid, everything is fine for about a minute, then the screens go blank. I press a key on the keyboard or wiggle the mouse and the screens come back on, but my MacBook is on the locked screen; meaning I have to log back in? This suggests to me that the MacBook has gone in to sleep mode. When I keep the lid open this does not happen.

I have pretty much tied everything suggested on the internet. I have updated the firmware on the D6000, added the latest DisplayLink Drivers for MacOS, reset the SMC, tried the Amphetamine app, set my screen to never go off or go in to sleep mode and still the issue persists.

Has anyone got any ideas? Currently I'm having to keep my MacBook open next to me and turn the brightness down to zero, as I don't really want it on when I'm not using it. I have thought about plugging in the power adaptor, but my MacBook is being already getting power from the docking station, so not sure what damage that could do if I have two sources of power going to it.

If anyone can help that would be great.

https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/dell-universal-dock-d6000/apd/452-bcyt/pc-accessories reviews indicate it will work with the Mac. You might want to see if any give details about what makes it work.

Note, this hub is only 65W. Others are 100W and depending on the power of the device, may need that extra power.

The USB-C cable that comes with the power brick from Apple is a power only cable, and does not do video or data transfer. Be sure to use a different USB-C cable if your computer only has USB-C. SIIG makes some really good 100W pass through USB-C hubs.

The dock uses DisplayLink technology so it is designed to work with MacOS and I have downloaded the latest drivers from the DisplayLink website. The dock itself is connected to a 170w power supply and has a PD pass through of 65w. My Mac is only an Air which I believe only requires 30w and not 85w like a Pro with a dedicated Graphics card, so I don't think it's to do with the power. My MacBook is getting charged by the dock with no issues.

My issue seems to be to do with software, either Catalina or driver issues and I'm trying to find out whether someone else has had the same issue and managed to resolve either through an update or by changing the the settings on either a Mac, the dock or the monitors.

Like I said, I've pretty much exhausted what I have found on this forum and the Dell forum and still the issue persists.

I had this issue when i upgraded to Catalina 10.15.7 from Mojave. I tried a few things suggested other places like setting, etc and was already in right place there. also some resets and unplugging/replugging. What worked for me was to plug my monitor and peripherals into the D6000 and then attach my WIndows Laptop (Dell XPS). Then run firmware update and driver update/refresh from the Windows machine. Post that everything worked fine. Hope this helps someone!
