Can a printer fax with a smartphone?

I am buying a new brother printer. I want to know if I can fax with it without using a landline phone, but a smartphone instead? Is this possible? How do I go about it? Can you recommend a brother computer that does this, if it is possible.

Thanks!

iPhone 8, iOS 13

Contact Brother:

If you have it laying in the feeder, then contact the manufacture.: Brother Perhaps they have an App to download that allows for interactivity through WiFi. If you hover your iPhone over it, then I would assume you would have the option of proceeding with a fax. But, it is an application that I think you would need.

Great question!

True faxing is no longer supported on mobile networks for about 15-18 years now (my old Nokia Communicator use to do that and it required a special cellular account form AT&T) so these everything has to be handled on the back end using an email-based relay server/service that connects to the Internet on one end, and connects to landlines on the other for the service provider.

It looks like they have an app that allows you to bring your iPhone in simulated faxing ability: https://support.brother.com/g/b/midlink_countrylanguage.aspx?site=sp&type3=78&targetpage=18

It looks like Brother has something called i-Fax that does just this, or rather relays this via email to a server or some such, at least through the Mac and it supports current in-store models of Brother MFC printers.

I can't tell if the iPhone can do this 100% independently without a computer available or not. You'll want to do some more research or contact them.
