I have HDMI from MacBook Pro to adapter, adapter to MacBook Air. I want to use MB Air as second monitor. However, when I go to System Preferences, Display there is no option for Arrangements to set up. Can someone help?

No MacBook of any description has a video INPUT, and therefore none can be used a second display to extend the desktop.
There are some older iMacs (pre 2014) that could o this trick, but never has been any support for any MacBook.

You can add second monitor to a MacBook Pro, and in some cases, a third one as well.
The choice of Destination is the problem. You cannot use a MacBook Air as a destination display for a different video input.
You can use an HD TV set if it has inputs, or a free-standing Monitor/Display.

trying to follow instructions on adding a second monitor to my MacBook Pro (15-inch, late 2013) but there is no Arrangements option on Display section???
