I keep getting a verification code messenger at odd hours of the night and I am not the one requesting that information. I get that someone else is trying to access my account. What do I do and can it be traced back to whom ever is trying to gain access?

There isn't a way to trace who is trying to sign in. Since you have 2 Factor Authentication enabled, as long as they can't access one of your trusted devices, they can't get a code, and sign in. You should be okay.
