I didn't eject my external hard drive now it will not reconnect

Hi! As the title says, I had an external hard drive plugged to my macbook. It was working just fine but I forgot to eject it and now when I try to reconnect it, it is not showing up. I would really appreciate some help, I am desperate.

I foolishly turned off the computer without ejecting it and later there were many error messages reminding me to eject before closing down. That has since stopped. When I try to eject it to see if that will reset it, there is no triangle icon to eject it with. I wonder if I have ruined it? Thanks for any suggestions.

External Hard Drive Won't Mount/Eject Hi all, I have an external hard drive (WD EasyStore) with 10+ years and >1TB of information on it that I mistakenly pulled out without ejecting properly. Now the drive is seen by the Disk Utility but will not eject or open in read only when running commands in terminal. I only have a mac so haven't tried anything on a PC. Can't Eject External Hard Drive Hello! I have a 2020 MacBook Pro and a WD My Passport for Mac 4TB, and sometimes when I want to eject it it says "one or more programs may be using it" and I can force eject, but I don't want to risk the contents of the drive. How can I find out what application is preventing me from ejecting?

Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things then-
Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM.
