Display Brightness Issues

I can't adjust my brightness anymore. It stays at the same brightness regardless of what the brightness is set at. I thought it was just my keyboard but it won't work manually either. I have an older Mac (iMac 2009). So it doesn't have ambient light sensors, so it can't adjust brightness automatically. I haven't had this computer for long either, only been using it for 3 or 4 month. However, it has been upgraded to MacOs High Sierra, but this is a very recent issue. I do digital art on my computer, so brightness is a big issue for me. Right now it's stuck on a slight dimmer brightness. I don't know what to do.

iMac, macOS 10.13

Hi sammoh20,

We understand you are unable to adjust display brightness on your Mac.

We would recommend performing an NVRAM Reset and SMC Reset. You can learn how to do so here: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac and How to reset the SMC of your Mac.

It may also be worth your time to review this article: Change your display’s brightness.

If the issue persists, we would recommend testing in safe mode. You can learn how to do so here: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

So, I performed an NVRAM and SMC reset. After I had done that when the Mac was turning on the loading screen was brighter but when it turn on and I logged in it didn't change at all. No matter what brightness it's set at it won't change. I don't know what to do.
