Upgrading:

It's a bit old of an iPhone - not so certain that would make a difference for your cell Carrier, though. But, upgrade to a newer iPhone, if an available option for you. See where things go from there. I'm starting to notice messages popping up saying to update to 10.14 in order to get items to work.
