iPad screen controlling itself?

I just received a brand new iPad as a gift yesterday (best. gift. ever, btw)

I registered it, synced it, and charged it fully and used it all day yesterday with no issues. This morning, while using Safari, the browser started controlling itself. It began zooming in and out, scrolling up and down, opened up a blank browser page and started switching between the website I was on and the blank website. I hit the button to return myself to the home screen, and this screen was also controlling itself! It scrolled from side to side and was shaking. I locked the iPad, waited a few seconds, and then unlocked it. The screen had stopped moving itself.

I re-opened Safari, closed the browser page I was on, and tried to continue web browsing. After a minute or two of no issues, the problem started again! I don't know what is causing this.

One theory I have - the iPad is around 20% battery life. I have never had any issues on my iPhone with it "freaking out" due to low battery life, but could this be the issue with my iPad?

If you think that this could be the problem, paula, why don't you charge your iPad completely, and see if the problem is resolved? After that, you could post some rather useful information. For example, "charging my iPad completely, solved this problem". Or, "recharging my iPad completely did not solve the problem".

Hi, Paula, and welcome to the Discussions.

While I can't say with certainty, I doubt that low battery charge would cause this problem, though as Carl suggested you can charge the iPad up and see if that has any effect. If not, try restarting the iPad: hold down the power button until you get the red "slide to power off", do so, and then press the power button again to start the iPad back up.

If the problem persists, post back and we'll go from there.

Try to clean the iPad screen…

Other things you can try:
• Turn the iPad off and on again (hold the sleep/wake button for about 4 to 5 seconds until a red slider appears with the label "slide to power off")
• Try a hard reset - hold the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for about 4 to 5 seconds, until the iPad tunes off. Then turn it on again.
• If it does not help, restore the firmware with iTunes.

Same problem here and did a total restore from iTunes today, thought it had worked but alas several hours later and in safari screen just goes all shaky and contracting and expanding and rapidly moving from side to side. Home button takes you back to main screen and from there I can only hard reset as screen is unresponsive.
I see there are threads on this as well.

I've recently started experiencing this with my iPad 2. I left it upstairs today for about half an hour, came back up and it had completely switched to a different playlist on Spotify and had even added a Snapchat to my story with a blank picture and random letters. It will zoom in and out of pictures and slides between pages and it's really starting to freak me out.

my ipad mini is doing the same if you have figured it out please help me out, btw resetting it does not work so dont do it
