My iPad seems to be off, is there a way I can see where the location was last?

My iPad is off and I cannot find it, is there a way to see where it was last. Should I erase all data on it?

iPad, iOS 12

In order to see the last location, "Send Last Location" would have to have been turned on in Settings > [username] > Find My > Find My iPhone in the device before it was lost. The description in Settings for that is "Automatically send the location of this device to Apple when the battery is critically low." The location would not be available if the device is offline because someone turned it off or because it doesn't have an internet connection, but only if it is off because the battery was low. The additional requirement is that the location is only shown for 24 hours. If all of those conditions are met you would see the last location in Find My. There is some information on that in If Find My iPhone is offline or not working - Apple Support

If it was mine, I would as Find My to erase it (but not remove it from my account). See the following from If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support

Erase your device. To prevent anyone else from accessing the data on your missing device, you can erase it remotely. When you erase your device, all of your information (including credit, debit, or prepaid cards for Apple Pay) is deleted from the device, and you won't be able to find it using the Find My app or Find iPhone on iCloud.com. After you erase a device, you can't track it. If you remove the device from your account after you erase it, Activation Lock will be turned off. This allows another person to turn on and use your device.
