What is the right Ethernet connector for a 2019 Mac Air?

The right connector type that you will need is ➔ The Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adapter from Apple. Of course you can always research compatible adapters/cables from other suppliers. Please see image below.

Your daughter is correct. The port in your image is the Thunderbolt 3 (also known as a USB-C Port).
