Preventing notifications on Apple Watch from occurring after replying to a muted conversation in iMessage

Despite hiding alerts on my phone and setting my watch to mirror notifications on my phone, I consistently receive notifications on my watch on iMessage threads once I reply to the message on my phone (even though my watch is still set to mirror notifications on the phone and even though the message thread is still set to hide alerts on my phone). The only way I'm able to fix the problem is by unpairing and re-pairing my watch (or by blocking every single member of the iMessage thread), both of which are time-consuming and less than ideal. I would like to be able to reply to message threads that have notifications hidden without causing notifications from that thread to get sent to my watch and have hoped that several software updates would fix the problem, but so far they have not. I'd appreciate any help with how I can reply to messages that have notifications hidden without causing notifications to subsequently get sent to my watch.

Please note, I already have notifications hidden on my phone, and my watch is already set to mirror notifications on my phone, so suggesting either of those things will not be new for me. I also am trying to avoid having to unpair and re-pair my phone every time I want to reply to this message thread, so that suggestion will also not be new for me. Thanks in advance.

Hello EEG_,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see you have a question about notifications on your Apple Watch, and we'd like to help out.

We're not sure why the group message is still giving notifications, but only after a response from the Apple Watch. Let's see if any of these steps help out:

Take a look at this article: Notifications on your Apple Watch. Scroll down to the section titled "How to change how you get notifications on your Apple Watch". The next section "Customize your notification settings", may also be of help.

Another option is to go to the Watch app on your iPhone > Notifications > Messages > Custom and change how you want to see Messages on your Apple Watch.

If you're still unable to mute those message notifications, we'd suggest contacting Apple Support. Get Support

Take care!
