Lost phone/Apple ID

I lost my iphone a week ago and I have purchased a new iPhone. I’m curious to know if I reported the other iPhone as lost, should I continue to have the device connect with my Apple ID? Or should I remove the device from my account?

I would leave it connected, only to make it impossible for anyone else to use it if it was stolen. See the following from If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support

If you remove the device from your account after you erase it, Activation Lock will be turned off. This allows another person to turn on and use your device.
