you cannot, the iPhone 5 does not support beyond iOS 10.3.4

You cannot update iPhone 5 to iOS 12. An iPhone 5 only updates to iOS version 10.3.4

You cannot. The phone is too old, it has been 8 years by now. It's simply too old and it doesn't support anything beyond iOS 10.3.4.

If you want the latest iOS 13 (or 14), not the also outdated iOS 12, buy a new, current-gen iPhone.

What do you expect from an 8 year old phone?
