Cannot load mail

I am getting an ANNOYING message continuously on icloud mail on my chromebook. Never had this issue until the last week or so. It pops up constantly and won't allow the message to be loaded almost continually in the list of messages. It's driving me crazy. Can someone help? I'm online, everything is updated.

I'm also experiencing this annoying problem when accessing my email through the icloud.com web interface. It's popping up when I try to load the next email message in my mailbox. The exact message is "Cannot load message. This message cannot be loaded at this time. Try again later." It's been happening since the weekend. I don't think it's browser related because the problem pops up on Chrome and IE. If I scroll to next message and then back, then sometimes it will load successfully.


Going through my emails on a iOS device doesn't have this problem.

I've had this issue for about 2 weeks now and have spent about 3 hours on the phone with Apple support during the past week or so. It seems to be an intermittent issue that can sometimes go a day without issue then occur on pretty much every new message the next day.


I've currently got a support case open with Apple's 2nd line support but unfortunately it's not really progressed much. For me, the issue exists with both Firefox and Edge Chromium and have tried disabling adblockers, clearing cookies and data, private mode as well as using my iPhone's hotspot mobile connection, none of which made any difference. In my most recent conversation with Apple support a couple of days ago they seemed to think it was a DNS server issue, but I've tried Cloudflare, Virginmedia and Google DNS servers all to no avail either.


The intermittent, non-repeatable nature and the coincidental timing of people having the same problem would, to me, suggest that this isn't a client-side issue so I'd be interested to know if anyone has seen the problem resolved for longer than a few days.

I don't know if anyone else has tried this, but in a small way it has helped (not solved) the situation. If I hi-light one of my emails and then instead of deleting it (which seems to trigger the response we have all seen) I go directly to another email I can open several before getting the window saying that the message cannot be opened. Then when I am done I just hi-light the first and last ones using the shift key that I have looked at and delete them all at the same time. This doesn't work all the time, but I would be interested if anyone else can duplicate this.

I just started getting this "cannot load message. This message cannot be loaded at this time. Please try again later."


I'm on a MacBook Pro 16" late 2019, Catalina 10.15.6 using Safari 14.0


I often get this error message, go to a different email (which may or may not load) but when I go back to the initial problem email it will open.


C'mon Apple, why is this happening???

I've been very affected by this error in the past, but for a couple of weeks it's not happened on a weekday for me except maybe on 1 or 2 pieces of mail a day. I'm having no problem accessing the server either. If you're still unable to connect, I'd suggest you contact Apple for technical support. The rep I worked with said they don't come to this forum to answer questions or address issues.

I also have the same issues. I think this is a new problem because I've tried searching but there are no resources available to troubleshoot this. Other emails with attachments of mine are loading perfectly. This error pops up if there are many recipients in the said email (a blast email) and there is an attachment.


Awaiting for icloud to fix this.

I agree with your assessment. I do not believe it is client side. I think mine worked normally for three days then it started acting up again. At this point it seems worse. Before I could click off the Message with the error, go to a read email and then back And it would load. Now it is giving me the error on both. It persists on Firefox and Chrome on both my Mac and my PC.

I did try it on Safari and it worked fine...

I am having this issue also, starting from the same time frame (around 9/2). I see that 49 people have said "me too" on this issue. It's driving me crazy also. Nothing changed on my laptop and it's not likely that the same local change would have been made by the other 48 of us. I'm going to call Apple and give support a try, though it sounds like many of you have already tried this. If anyone has a resolution, please post it.

Same for me, no problem on my phone ever. Only on my laptop running Windows.


That's interesting to hear that you're still having the problem today, yet I have not had it all day. The technician on the phone with me today said that he will investigate it further when it happens again, and that I should be sure to capture a screenshot. I'll do that, but you might also want to report it to Apple Support as well (https://getsupport.apple.com/).


If we all report the issue, it has a better chance of getting resolved. If anyone else has a case number please post it.

I've been having this same issue for the past several weeks when I access my iCloud email via Safari. It doesn't happen when I'm on my phone or iPad. It is really annoying and makes it so my emails are backed up because it struggles to delete them. It's definitely on the Apple side that needs to be fixed. Hopefully they'll see this and address it soon.
