dual monitors
I have a 2011 IMac and want to get a new iMac. Can I connect these two so I use the old one as a second monitor. If it does not work what kind of monitor would I need to get to connect to a new iMac?
iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13

No, the new Mac will not support Target Display Mode. This was discontinued with the 2014 iMacs. If you want an external display for the new iMac you will need to buy one, the good news is external displays have come way down in price.

Pretty much any monitor you can find will work with an iMac.
You will need a Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C adapter for most monitors without a direct USB-C input.
For example: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MUF82AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter can be used with monitors with HDMI inputs.
