Locked Notes After Transferring Phone

I used my warranty to get a new iPhone Xs Max. For the last 18 months used face to unlock locked notes. After loading my most recent backup, the Facial Recognition function will not unlock my notes, and I do not remember the password I initially setup 18 months ago. How can I access the note, or change the password? This is a huge flaw that there isn't a way to provide some method to retrieve this information.

Hi 208Rocky,

We understand you're trying to access a locked note with Face ID but it is requiring a password. We're happy to help.

When you use the feature to lock notes you'll need to create a password aside from using Face ID for unlocking. When you make a change like switch to a new device or restore a backup, as a security feature it will require you to enter your password to enable Face ID unlocking again.

If you don't know what your notes password is, there is no way to reset it. You can create a new notes password which will allow you to lock future notes, however this won't give you access to those previous notes that were locked with a different password.

You can find more information on locking notes here: Lock notes on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac

We hope this helps. Take care!
