I just received my MacBook Pro 13" from Apple so it would be a 2020. The monitor that I am using is a Samsung branded monitor 32" model C32F. My MacBook has 4 thunderbolt connections, and I am using a usb c dock to connect the monitor to which plugs into the thunderbolt connection on my MacBook. You should be able to connect to the USB C with a usb c to HDMI dongle. Apple has one which I believe is the av digital dongle or there are plenty of aftermarket brands for you to choose.
