Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which iMac model you have, download El Capitan, High Sierra, or Catalina.


If you got an error message when trying to download Catalina saying that version of it can't be installed on the computer, pick one of the other versions. If not, the issue is something which can be addressed.
