Apple Watch series 1 wont pair

Hello.

i have an iPhone XR and want to connect to the first series Apple Watch. I pair the watch and get prompted with an update screen.

After pressing “update now” i wait 30 seconds and get a prompt saying that my phone cannot connect to the watch. I have tried resetting my phone and updating to the latest version of IOS and still nothing.

any help and ideas would be much appreciated

iPhone XR, iOS 13

Watches with watchOS 5 or lower won’t pair to iPhone with iOS 13 -

The work around is to pair the watch to a phone still running iOS 12. While paired to iOS 12, you should be able to update the watch to the latest version of watchOS. After the update, unpair the watch and you should then be able to pair it to a phone running iOS 13.
