Ipad birthday gift

Hi there. A generous friend of mine gifted me with an Ipad today. I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro(2013) and an Iphone 6s but have never had an Ipad. Would love a little guidance setting it up please. Thank you.

Since you already have, and use an iPhone 6s, you already have the background to use an iPad.

She already has an iPhone and has an Apple ID (which I have the password to) I wanted to get it set up for her but if I sign into her Apple ID will it alert her phone?
