iphone 8 can't erase and I am putting in correct password for apple id. Apple id password is working on new phone

How can I erase all content on my iphone 8 without the apple id password. Phone keeps saying password is incorrect, but the password is working on my new iphone X. WTF. Need to wipe the phone to send it into carrier.

You are using the same Apple ID on both phones? Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.

Try a restart.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Try a forced restart.

Reset Device.
