Connecting an Dynamic mic on Late2014 Mac Mini

Why am I not able to simply connect my Dynamic Mic to the system, though I have tried both connections: 1. XLR to 3.5" (TRS) & 2. XLR ro 3.5" (TRRS)

I must point out that, in GarageBand I can atleast see the levels moving if I speak into the mic when I used Connection No. 1. However, I couldn't hear any output on my headset, nor was there any waves getting formed as I pressed record and spoke into the mic!

I use a Condenser Mic with USB Audio Interface (1Channel), But I want to be able to use my Dynamic mic for Narrations/ Podcast, plugged in directly to my Mac Mini.

Request a solution... : )

Cheers

It’s not a Mic Input, it’s a Line In input. Irrespective of how other devices behave, the Mac wants Line In, you give it Line In.

If you want Mic in, you need to split the Headphone jack using a TRRS splitter like this one https://www.amazon.com/MillSO-Headset-Splitter-TRRS-Headphones/dp/B07569QKQQ and connect the mic and headset using it. See if that works for ya. It just might.

Thanks n Yup, through an Audio Interface it works jus fine, wit an XLR cable!

  • I'm also able to use the Mic via XLR to 3.5mm TRS cable on my H1 recorder.
  • I was wondering that, i must be able to plug in a Mic directly, as there are 2 jacks (Speaker out n Mic in) behind my Mac.
  • Since i hav also tried a lapel mic (again wit both (TRS n TRRS) pins n found that it wasn't still responding.
  • So, im trying to figure out what other Mic can i use on my Mac Mini’s mic input directly on the in-house DAW (Garage Band!)
