USB mobile modem stick or dongle. What software, if any, is needed?

Hi,

First thing you should do is check with your local provider if their dongles are sim locked or not.
If they are locked,you can buy an unlocked(doesn't have to be from your provider) one and use it with any sim.

every dongle/provider has it's own software.You can download it from your phone providers website and install it on your mpb(very easy).

Ok,so this is what i did.

I bought a dongle(huwawei momo design) from my provider (3 italy).Then i got a sim card with a data plan(also from 3).

Then i went on the website of 3 and downloaded the software that makes the dongle run on my mbp.

Most of the time the provider itself has the software on their web site to run the dongle.

In my case the huwawei has it as well,but i chose to download it from my provider.

Either way it works fine.

I've used the HUAWEI E1750 on Vodafone in Ireland and also on StarHub in Singapore and it works perfectly (well connection is slow but that's not the Mac!)

The software comes right on the stick.
