The drop down shows all available Wi-Fi networks. If you have deleted it from your network preferences, you will not be automatically signed in but it will remain available for you to select from the Wi-Fi menu bar drop down.

You cannot drop networks from the Wi-Fi dropdown in the menu bar. If you have deleted it from System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab by selecting it and clicking (–), your computer should not automatically join it. But it will show up in the Wi-Fi dropdown, because all in-range networks show up there, whether you've joined them or not.

I did exactly as you stated and deleted the xfinty wifi from the System Preferences tab exactly as you stated. Unfortunately, while using the internet, my computer every 15 minutes or so, selects the xfinity from the dropdown in the menu bar and disconnects me from my home network. Months ago, I saw a post somewhere that showed a complicated procedure to stop this from happening. I am not that familiar with what it said to do, but now I am getting desperate.

Thanks for your suggestions.
