Music stops when airplaying to device with error "The selected movie won't play on your display"

Hi,

I'm running Catalina 10.15.6 on a 2012 Mac mini.

My video output is via displaylink to a dock.

When using airplay, and only airplay this error displays and pauses the playback. (The playback can be resumed and will play until playlist stops or new song is selected)

The error that occurs is this:

The device being used with airplay is a Bose Soundtouch 20 series 3. It is running software V25.0.0

It's a bit strange, as only music is being streamed rather than any video. No other devices have issues when using airplay to the same speaker. The issue also never occurs when just playing from the computer's speakers.

After some more testing, it only happens when just the displaylink video out is connected, as output over HDMI doesn't have the same issue.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're seeing an HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) message when you connect your DisplayLink.

It sounds like the content you're trying to play is not compatible with your adapter or the adapter is not HDCP compliant. Take a look at these helpful articles:

Thank you for a response.

Unfortunately none of the articles linked are useful, as the situation seems to be a software related issue where only under certain circumstances (airplay + displaylink) will the music stop. However just under (displaylink) the music is fine, or (airplay + hdmi) the music plays properly.

Showing an error that usually returns results for movies on itunes suggests a bug in itunes.
