Voice Memos - original timestamp and metadata when saving to external drive.

Hi. I am using a MacBook Pro and iPhone 6s - to record voice memos. When I drag the voice memo after renaming it, to a folder on the MacBook itself or an external, I noticed I loose metadata of when I recorded and date and time.

Its important for me to refer back to what time and date I recorded it. Any help ?

thank you an advance.

Hey Joseph,

My devices are synced, so that’s not a problem. But I sort my voice memos in specific folders to organise. For that I drag and drop from the Voice Memos app on the mac to the particular folder I want it in. - the data changes. It shows when the file was created on the mac verses the original time/date of recording. I tired to see if there was an option for export on VM app but couldn’t find one. I want to use the VM app extensively, but would be useless if I can’t track time/date.

Thank you for you reply

Hello Shilpafromnull,

It sounds like when you transfer Voice Memos from your iPhone to your MacBook or your external hard drive you loose some metadata regarding the Voice Memos. You could try enabling Voice Memos to sync across your devices, this should keep the metadata regardless of the device it is on. Check out this link for support with syncing Voice Memos across your devices.

See your voice memos on all your devices

Cheers!
