Apple Watch not signed into iCloud

For some reason my Mac stopped allowing me to unlock using my Apple Watch. When I try to select the option again, it states your watch must be signed into iCloud. Based on the Watch app it is signed into the AppleID.

This was working last week and I did not make any changes.

I rebooted the watch and no change yet.

Other than repairing, can I force a login to iCloud?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Well, it's possible there is another solution (or there may not be). However, by the time you that figure out, you could have finished unpairing and re-pairing your watch.

The only time your watch connects to your Apple ID is during pairing, you can learn how to pair your watch at this link (Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support).

So despite the fact that both devices show they are connected to the same AppleID, the only solution is to unpair and then pair the watch again?
