Airdrop

Airdrop is not listed on my MacbookPro El Capitan in Finder/Preferences/Sidebar. It just isn't here. Nor anywhere else on the laptop. Should it be? I cannot d/l software for it from the Apple store because the store refuses to let me in. But that's a very long-standing problem that apple support has spent more than 10 hours trying without success to solve. So I need airdrop software from elsewhere.

Hi, welcome to the Apple Users Community.

Is your MacBook from 2008?

*The MacBook Pro (17-inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.

El Capitan is also not supported by Apple any longer.

Best of luck

You should still be able to bluetooth the files between the devices, I used to do that from a Sony Erickson phone to an iMac before iPhones existed in 2005/06.

It is one at a time and slow. I'd use iCloud or even another cloud-sharing account that you can access from both devices.

There is always the cable,

best of luck
