Spotlight search gone on iPad Pro? Center swipe down not working.

I am trying to find the spotlight search bar on my iPad Pro and have never been able to find it. I found articles with answers stating the spotlight search will appear if you swipe down on the top center of the screen, when I do this my lock screen shows up and nothing else besides “no notifications.” Thanks in advance for your help.

You swipe down them the middle of the screen to bring up Spotlight search. If you swipe down from the top middle of the screen you get notifications as you are seeing.
