It's an Apple official announcement.

But it's actually supported 8GB memory module on MacBook Pro Mid 2010 models.

If you think it's risky, you can get 8GB kit(two 4GB modules) at Amazon.

Thanks !! but when i checked the system memory upgrade options - it is showing it can be upgraded till 8 GB only and there are two slots available which can be filled with memory of 4GB each.

You can upgrade till 16GB(8GB DDR3 1066MHz PC3-8500 SODIMM X2).

You can get them at Amazon.
