My imac will not reset NVRAM
I’m want to sell my iMac and I’m trying to wipe it clean. I’ve tried several times to reset the NVRAM but it never works. It always opens to my log in. Any suggestion?

Until you erase the drive your login will still show up.
Ok, so I got it to work but I shut it down before reinstalling OS X. I restarted and am in the process of installing OS X El Capitan (this has been sitting idle for quite a while). Now it wants me to sign in with my Apple ID to complete the process. I’m hesitating putting my ID back on a computer I just wiped clean. Am I being too cautious?
Thank you! You have been a great help! I think I’m just going to recycle this through Apple. This was my very first Mac. When I did the Command-Q it asked for a start up disk, none was found. Like I said, recycle time. I am fine with that. What I really needed was to wipe it clean and you got me through that. Thank you again!
That is what I have been trying to do. Step by step but the reset is not working.
