When will the iPhone Xr be 5G compatible?

Never.

It does not contain a 5G modem.

At this time, no iPhone does.

Apple has yet to make any 5G devices and none of the existing devices have the hardware for 5G. Apple usually announces new iPhones in the fall, so watch for what comes out later this year though.
