Unless Q: is really 'how do I Upgrade my software on my Mac'

..not just update an existing system, to the next progressive step..

The answer varies, should there be need to go beyond present

circumstances; and if mac hardware, can in fact use the upgrade.

For systems prior to Catalina 10.15.x an issue concerning 32-bit

software and drivers, may need to be addressed; to get new

replacement 64-bit software and drivers; & run those in 10.15.6.

are 32-bit, and find upgrade information with the click of a button."

An update vs upgrade, involves further consideration; and newer

software to handle similar tasks in the newer macOS system. So

the question remains: which macOS, and are you seeking newer?
