We have a IMac (21.5-Inch, Mid 2010.... Are we able to upgrade it at all?

iMac 21.5″, OS X 10.10

From an operating system standpoint, you can upgrade to macOS High Sierra (10.13.6) and its security & browser updates. Be certain to view that link with Safari, and there is a link in that article to download 10.13.6.


MacOS High Sierra will drop off the customary Apple three-year sliding window of support once macOS 11 (Big Sur) is released to the public this Fall.


From a hardware perpective, you can only add external USB drives to increase storage, but not drive performance as this vintage Mac only has USB 2.0 ports. The RAM memory, and internal storage are not user serviceable.
