Your iPad doesn’t need to be paired via bluetooth to receive email. Instead, you simply need to join a WiFi network with your iPad - and configure your email account(s) on the iPad.

If the email accounts do not yet exist on the iPad, they are added here:

Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Add Account

Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support

So, “pairing” was a red herring - as is presence of email accounts on the iPad - your problem actually being Notifications.

Settings > Notifications > Mail > Allow Notifications - set to ON

Settings > Notifications > Mail > [Email Account] >

  • Allow Notifications - set to ON
  • [Alerts] - select Lock Screen/Notification Centre/Banners as required
  • Sounds - select an appropriate notification sound
  • Badges - set to ON
  • Show Previews - set to Always

The email accounts Do exist on the iPad. Thats not the problem. I check my email, daily on the iPad.. it just wont send me an alarm when I get new email.. . its a new iPad Air, third generation. I replaced an older one (had a dead battery) with the new one. Thank you for trying to help! I'm probably missing something really simple but I cant figure out what. Will try again tomorrow..
