Greetings, 1947pete.

It appears that the Compass application on your Apple Watch Series 5 isn't providing an accurate direction. It keeps pointing to magnetic north instead of true north, and we're glad to help with this.

Use the compass on Apple Watch Series 5 -- Since the compass uses magnetic north, open the Settings app on your watch, tap Compass, and make sure that "Use True North" is turned on.

If you're using a 3rd party watch band or screen protector, remove them and see if the direction improves.

If the Compass still isn't pointing to True North, test it again while outside with a clear view of the sky for 5 minutes (without any buildings nearby which can affect the Compass direction).

Let us know how that goes.

Take care.
