Can't uninstall iChat (which migrated to new MacBook) - Permissions issue?
So after migrating everything from a 2011 MBA to a brand new one running Catalina, I've been getting an error on startup about "Messages cannot be opened because of a problem", but when reading the diagnostic log included it's showing Applications/Utilities/iChat.app as the program throwing the error. When I try to delete it, nothing happens (either Command-Delete or dragging to Trash on dock). So I tried changing permissions in Finder, but I can't, so then tried using Terminal, sudo with both rm -rf and mv commands, as well as chmod, none of which is working.
It seems Disk Utility in Catalina no longer has a permissions repair function either. I've tried researching this elsewhere but the only solution seems to be "run the permissions repair in the Recovery tool and then reinstall the OS" which seems extreme.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated - how do I delete a stubborn file like this that migrated with broken permissions? I've deleted a ton of other obsolete Apple app's that also migrated over, including some in the same Utilities folder, and they've gone without a problem!
