I would like to know if it’s possible to automatically update the free apps I am using in my iPhone XR iOS 13.7 or must I continue to have to select each one in Apps to see if it needs to be updated?

I found today some apps and websites won’t open. Shows page but circle just keeps spinning. Couldn’t even open Apple system status. Powered off iPhone but nothing changed. Checked browser and all is ok. Would appreciate detailed information to solve this problem. Thanks
