Burn an iMovie project to a DVD

how do I burn/save my imovie project to a dvd to be watched on my tvs dvd player?  Sorry,  I’m still learing how to use this apple product so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am working off of my iMac 27”, macOS 10.15.6, serial number C0***G7J

I created a new project in iMovie for a friend’s funeral service but now I want to save this new project to a dvd to be passed out and shared amongst family and friends.  Due to COVID-19 funeral halls are not allowing more than 10 people to the services.  So, we thought it would be nice gesture to share fond memories of our lost loved one this way.

After my project was complete in iMovie, I exported my file to my desktop which it is now saved as an mp4.  I thought it was a simple task of uploading the file to the Toast DVD app that I purchased from the app store and hit “burn” to a dvd-r on my external drive but when it was complete, and I tried watching the burnt dvd on my tv dvd player it would not work/play.

What am I doing wrong?  Do I need to convert my file to another video file?  Purchase a different burning software?  Why is this so hard nowadays.  It used to be so simple to burn dvds before on my PCs but I’m new to this Apple world.  Please help!

Thank you,

confused

Hi, nadene160,

I don't know what went wrong with your Toast program. The way to burn a DVD from iMovie is to share the movie to File your desktop and then drag the movie into your DVD authoring program (like Toast), or otherwise follow the instructions of the program for loading in a movie. Then you burn the DVD with the authoring program. Since you are not having success with Toast you may want to try another DVD authoring program.

A DVD authoring program that works with Catalina and has been recommended on this board is made by Peng GUIPING and is called DVD Creator and is available in the app store for $14.99. Here's a link to a website that discusses the issue. Pay particular attention to the post by Batman15 and that poster's findings.

Have another look at your Toast application.

Toast can produce both Authored DVD discs and Data discs.

What you want is Authored DVD disc not Data disc for playing back on a DVD player.

You should have instructions with Toast so have another look to see the options.

Sometimes if you hover the mouse over the menu items you get a description of what it does.
