How do I make Home Videos default to List View in the TV app?

If I add content to my TV app library, it initially goes into my Home Videos category and is displayed in Grid view. I change it to List, sort them all into TV Shows or Movies and then import another lot. But the Home Videos category doesn't remember my preference, and reverts back to Grid view every time. How do I get it to default to List view permanently? I know it's possible, because I managed it once before, but have forgotten how I did it. I do remember that it wasn't something in the TV app itself.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see you have a question about a grid and list view with what looks to be the Apple TV app, and we'd like to do what we can to help.

Are these the steps that you followed? Apple TV app > Library tab > View > as List.

When we do this and then Quit the app, and reopen, it still shows the List view.

We're also not seeing a Home Video category, so we wanted to provide the Apple TV App User Guide for macOS Catalina.

Take a look at the user guide and hopefully you'll find the information that you need.

Yes, those are the steps. Did you empty the category before you quit and restarted? The category will hold the setting as long as there is an entry in it. Once the category is empty, it reverts to the grid view when you next use it (as I clearly stated in the problem description).

You aren't seeing a Home Videos category? It's in the left-hand sidebar, at the top. It has Movies, TV Shows, and, if there are entries in it, Home Movies. Like Downloads and Rentals, it isn't displayed if there are no entries to display. Only Movies and TV Shows are always displayed, empty or not.
