Icloud Backup only for 180 days?

Can anyone tell me if Icloud back ups really only last for 180 days? I will have to be without an iphone for a while but when I can afford another I will be purchasing it but in the mean time Iʻve backed up my phone, I just donʻt want to lose all of my data. I pay for Icloud so why would they delete it without consent? What would be the point in paying if they do that? :(

iPhone XR, iOS 13

That is pretty frustrating. I know itʻs in their terms and conditions but there should be a way to opt in for longer. I donʻt see why they would delete your information, especially when you pay for the space. They should make it free if they are just going to delete our stuff after 6 months.
