Change AppleID on a second hand Mac

I am using a second hand Mac and I'm trying to add my AppleID, however, the old ID seems to be stuck on my computer and cannot login using my own account. Can someone help?

Did the former owner erase the computer and set it up again? If not, you need to do that to make it 'your' computer. Start with step 6.

Is this your Mac?

If this is not your Mac, well, then let the Mac be (IOW: Don't fiddle with it). The user needs to log themself out of it. There is a wait of 90 days until it can associated to a different Apple Account. So, you may need to wait it out, until it can be associated to your Apple Account.

Did you open iCloud or Apple ID in System Preferences and sign out from your old Apple ID? Why are you unable to log into your own user account? This has nothing to do with your Apple ID.

Is this a second hand computer you just bought? If so, then you start by erasing the drive and installing the original version of the OS that came installed from the factory. See What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac.
