Ipad Air 3 volume raising by itself

My Ipad Air 3's (bought in January 2020) volume keeps increasing all by itself. When I try to get it back to the desired level (either with buttons or the virtual volume bar) it goes back up to max, as though the Up-volume button were constantly pressed.

I can sometimes get it back to where I want if I reboot my iPad, but the problem starts again as soon as I start playing any media - youtube, zoom, and even videos on Safari and Chrome. If I reboot the ipad, adjust the volume and do not play any media, the volume stays where I left it.

What could be wrong and how could I fix it?

I have never dropped or damaged the ipad. I already tried: removing the case, wiping the buttons, rebooting, removing and reinstalling apps, turning off Bluetooth, removing all bluetooth devices, and my iOS is always up-to-date.

Hi,

I changed to the settings you mentioned and still have the problem. Very frustrating not being able to properly use media on my iPad, which I need for work and to study. I also do not understand why a software update would reduce the amount of control options we have over our own devices (and, of course, I cannot revert to the former iOS version now). Now I can't ever make my iPad silent when i need.

I will follow the link to get support, but I believed this thread was already the way to do it...

Quick update: I followed the link and, after selecting some options, writing the description and logging in to my account to indicate my device, I get the lovely message that my product 'does not qualify for free support'.

I just want to fix a very annoying issue that has been around for some time now and is not my fault in any way, in a device that was bought this year, and reading something like that is the last thing I want.

Hi aegislash13,

It sounds like you are having some issues with the volume on your iPad Air (3rd generation) adjusting by itself while playing certain media types. Being able to hear the content of those media apps and sites is important when you're in a meeting or viewing a video you have selected. You've come to the right place for help.

Before we get started, do you have any cases on your iPad Air that protects your volume buttons or cover the speakers? Let's go ahead and walk through the resource below that helps with sound issues you may encounter:

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

We hope this helps with the issue you're having with the sound while playing media from apps and websites.

aegislash13,

We appreciate you following up and letting us know the additional steps you have completed. When you use an external accessory, such as EarPods or other headphones, do you experience the same issue? If you make a FaceTime audio or video call does the volume stay at your desired level?

Let's also make sure that restriction wasn't set up for volume limits. The resource below mentions music but we want to look at the second bullet point to check the restrictions itself:

Change the way music sounds on iPad

Please reach back out with the answers to those questions and the status of your volume after checking for any restrictions.

Take care!

aegislash13,

The update is a great step to try. We want to be sure that iOS 14.0.1 is installed as that is the most up to date software we have released. With software releases some menu options may change. If you go to Settings > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Reduce Loud Sounds, is that set to Allow or Don't Allow?

If you have this set to Allow and are still having issues reach out to us here:
